T&C Eagles take 2nd place in the Fall Classic - 2004!

This fall, our T&C Eagles entered the Capital Classic Fall Tournament over the weekend of October 23rd and 24th.  This tournament was for 4 soccer games over two days.  We were scheduled to play as follows -

Saturday 8:00am - Eagles vs. PAYSL Panthers
Saturday 11:00am - Eagles vs. the T&C Clash

Sunday 8:00am - Eagles vs. T&C Hawks
Sunday 11:00am - Eagles vs. T&C Burn

Friday night, we had a large line of Thunderstorms sweep through Austin dumping over an inch of rain in most areas.  Saturday morning's soccer fields were just SOAKED!  We started the tournament against the Panthers, who are known for their BIG players (most of them were over 1 ft. taller than us).

Although they were definitely a more powerful team, and favored to win, we were able to hold them to a scoreless game for the first 17 minutes of the first half.  The ball did spend a lot of time on OUR side of the field...

As the game progressed the Panthers took relentless shots on our goalie, and ended up winning the game 6-0.

Our next game was against the Clash.  This is actually David's and my old team.  When David moved from U12 into U14, the remaining Clash stayed in U12 and is still the same team (although most players have changed) when I coached them.  The Clash is a U12 team who played up into the U14 bracket.  They were very good, and our game started out exchanging shots on goal that ended the first half at 2-2.  The Eagles were in much better spirits after finally getting some goals on the board.

Head Coach Karyn Reineke felt MUCH better after the first early morning coffee got us going! All the while, our supportive parents were cheering and watching from the sidelines.  At Halftime, the Team Parents move in and help pass out refreshments and words of encouragement to the team -

On Sunday, we started the morning playing against the T&C Hawks.  The Hawks is another U14 team, whose Head coach was one of my team parents on last year's "Storm" team.  The Eagles quickly took lead, and held a healthy 3-0 throughout most of the game.  At the end, the Hawks were finally able to get through out defenses and score one, ending the game at 3-1.

Here's some of the player shots -

Game 4 - Sunday, 11:00am.  The T&C Burn is an excellent team who have been together as a team for a number of years.  Our T&C Eagles is a brand new team this season.  The Burn was the favorite to win, as they gave the PAYSL Panthers a 1-1 run for most of their game, when the Panthers scored a last-minute goal to beat the Burn 2-1.

We knew going in that if we tied, the Burn would take 2nd place based on their Points accumulations.  If we wanted 2nd place, we HAD to win this one.

The game began, and the Burn took the offensive and tried several times to get close and score.  Our defense held, and Kevin's BIGFOOT kept putting the ball way down the field.  About 10 minutes into the game, our offense snuck in and scored on their goalie, bringing the score to 1-0.  We were screaming WOOOOHOOOOO!  At halftime, everyone gathered in and made resolve to give it their all for the last 30 minutes and score 2 more goals for insurance.

As the second half started, John Palmore and his "Burn" pushed hard to score on us, and we pushed harder to score on them.  The volleys back and forth were powerful on both teams, but in the end, neither team could score, leaving the final score of 1-0!

At the end of the 4th game, we all went over to the Main tent, and the awards ceremony for U14 was held.  The Panthers took 1st place with 4-0, Our T&C Eagles took 2nd place with 3-1, Burn was 2-2, Hawks were 1-3 and the Clash was 0-4.

Karyn passed out trophies to the team.  Looking forward to next year!
