Christmas 2003

DCP_2453.JPG (229026 bytes)We began our Christmas celebration in Houston a week early so we could be with Michele's sister Nan, who was visiting from Memphis.

Nan visits from Memphis Picture of Michele and kids Chuck received a WWII vintage Russian rifle from Nan and Hal for Christmas David and Christopher

After that, we spent an afternoon / evening with my Sister at her place in Austin.   My parents also came up from Houston to visit as well.

The adults table The kids spent most of the afternoon running around in the back yard playing David jumped in front of Amanda RIGHT when I snapped this photo..what a clown
The little ones David played Santa, pulling the younger ones up to his lap and saying "What do YOU want for Christmas" - the kids got a big kick out of it The kids opened their gifts from each other.

Then Chuck (Michele's Dad) came up from Houston and we celebrated Christmas at home.   I think the overall tone was exhaustion, so we mostly lounged around, relaxed, and ate Turkey.

Our tree - we went out to the farm again this year and chopped down a tree.  It turned out to be much larger than it looked when we cut it down! Here's our family room - Michele has done a LOT of work this last year decorating it like Lord of the Rings. Another shot of the fireplace mantle.   She has added figurines of the characters.  I installed Gas logs this Winter, but it doesn't generate the heat that regular firewood did, I miss my firewood!  Too late now though... Another view looking from the family room to the living / dining room areas. As you can see, we've been painting.  I call it Mint Chocolate Chip!
Alex and Victoria really enjoy playing Matchbox cars.  They have this plastic road that they make into different configurations, then fight over who gets which cars. :-) Christmas morning and Santa has visited us again.  David is eyeballing the gifts.  This year Christopher took over the family job of passing out presents. The rest of the crew waiting for Christopher to get started.  Actually we were waiting for Michele who was still doing Turkey stuff in the kitchen. Side note - we cooked the turkey in a roaster oven at 200 degrees.   We started it late Wednesday night and cooked it until about 2pm on Thursday.   It was incredible!  The roaster holds in the juices and the turkey literally FELL off the bones  MMM good!

Overall it was quiet and relaxing this year.  I got the new Tom Clancy novel, and pretty much read it cover to cover the next few days.  I also got a Garage Door opener, and will have to install it this Winter, but that's a project for another day.
